Welcome to the Café Galadriel. It’s 1978, and the don’t-trust-anyone-over-thirty generation is slowly turning thirty. The boysenberry muffins are in the oven, the poetry reading is about to begin, and America is two years away from electing Ronald Reagan. Peace, love, and social justice are on the menu, as are heartache and murder.

Elana Michelson is a native New Yorker now living in the Hudson Valley, where she writes, reads, and gardens and obsesses with her wife, Penny, about the voracious groundhogs and volunteers with local social justice organizations. After thirty-five years as a professor, she has put down a beloved career of academic writing (and student papers) in favor of writing murder mysteries. She earned a PhD in English from Columbia University, but she gained her knowledge of the life and times of Part of the Solution by having been there.
PART OF THE SOLUTION is a gripping mystery novel that delves into the complexities of human nature and the choices that define us. The story is a blend of suspense, emotional depth, and thought-provoking themes.
The book follows Claire, a woman who is forced to unravel a series of dark secrets lurking in her seemingly peaceful New England town, testing her own values and perception of truth.
Set in the picturesque but eerie landscapes of Massachusetts, with key locations like old houses, bookstores, and grocery stores, which play pivotal roles in the unfolding story.
Filled with unexpected turns, PART OF THE SOLUTION keeps readers on edge while also inviting them to reflect on deeper questions of justice and personal responsibility.
Elana Michelson is a passionate storyteller and a relentless observer of the human condition. Inspired by her rich life experiences and extensive travels, her works delve into themes of growth, redemption, and finding one’s true path. PART OF THE SOLUTION is her literary debut, blending personal experiences and universal truths in a captivating narrative.
Elana’s writing is heartfelt and deeply moving. A must-read!

What a strange, strange moment to be publishing a murder mystery that takes us Boomers back to our twenties and records, in some small way, moments of idealism and disillusionment.
Prompted by my wonderful publishers, I’ve been setting up what they call “author pages” on various book-lovers’ platforms. Signing onto them for the first time, I’ve been surprised to find Part of the Solution, not on its own, but tucked down at the bottom under the respectable academic titles I’ve produced over the years.
